Hunting for a Luxury Apartment? Ask These Questions

Posted on: 30 April 2020

Living a lifestyle of luxury all starts with where you live. If you are in the process of apartment hunting for a nicer place, it will help to ask the following questions to ensure that the place meets your needs.

1. Will Any Amenities Cost Extra?

When renting a luxury apartment, it is common to have amenities that really make the building stand out among the others in the area. For example, there may be a pool or a private gym in the building that you have access to. However, it is important to understand how those facilities work. Some luxury apartment buildings include the cost as part of the rent, while others will charge extra to use them.

If you plan on using these facilities for an additional fee, make sure you include them in your budget so that you know that you can afford it. Thankfully, you may be dropping your membership fees elsewhere because you can now use the gym in your apartment building.

2. Can You Modify the Apartment in Any Way?

Luxury apartments are quite different since they are more spacious than what you will typically find out on the real estate market. It is also common for people to rent these units long term, and then make modifications to them so that they fit their needs better. For example, some places allow renters to put up a partial wall or remove a wall to open up the space.

You'll want to make sure that the landlord allows you to do these things if you want to, as well as the process for modifying your apartment floorplan. You'll more than likely need the construction work approved first, but you may be limited to using certain contractors that work with the building.

3. Can You Have a Dog?

A luxury apartment may be more sensitive to the needs of their tenants than other apartment buildings. If you want to live with your pet, you do not want to be caught off guard by renting an apartment to discover that they're not allowed. If you have a pet, make sure you fully understand what the policy is and if you can bring them along. Expect to pay an additional pet deposit to cover any damage that they may cause in the apartment.
